The Nations Cup without Super Eagles

By Sun News Publishing Monday, October 17, 2011

Unexpectedly, the national team, the Super Eagles, on Saturday, October 8, failed to qualify for the 2012 edition of African Nations Cup after a 2-2 draw with visiting Syli Stars of Guinea in their final Group B match at the Abuja National Stadium. The Eagles needed only a clear win to make it to the continental football fiesta to be co-hosted early next year by Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Although Eagles Chief Coach, Samson… Continue

The fire this time...

By Uche Ezechukwu 0803 622 3337 [email: onukwube1@yahoo.com] Monday, October 17, 2011

Last week, a top official of the Federal Government, whose sense of duty and patriotism I respect enormously, confronted me with the poser as to why “you do not like President Jonathan”. His reason for that is that according to him, I am a regular critic of the policies of the president. I was surprised and told him that the opposite is really the case and that my regular pointing out of the mines… Continue

The Akpabio thesis

By Eric Osagie (ericosagie@sunnewsonline.com) Monday, October 17, 2011

The governor of Akwa Ibom state, south-south, Nigeria, Dr. Godswill Obot Akpabio, got me ruminating the other day. He propounded a thesis that could well be at the heart of our nation’s tottering performance, 51 years after we got our political independence from the British. Akpabio’s leadership thesis may be the way out of the poverty and underdevelopment holding sway in many states of the federation; the reason… Continue

The SSS provocateur and Ken Saro-Wiwa

BY PATRICK NAAGBANTON

I FORGOT completely that the returning and repulsive month called November, is around the corner again. The agony of a nation descending into a deeper crisis, and the death of Kingsley Baridilo Kpea, the Ogoni-born petroleum engineer and Comrade who died recently in an Indian hospital, are troubling me, to forget the nauseating month November.

I am glad that I was not born in November, I was born in August. Sometimes August tramp like November.… Continue

Illicit sale of babies

The Sun Publishing Wednesday, October 05, 2011

The recent report that two children, a male and a female, were allegedly abducted from Divine Mercy Motherless Babies’ Home located in Obosi, Anambra State is mind-boggling. More stunning is the alleged involvement and connivance of a staff of Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in the illicit act.

Reports have it that Mrs Ifeoma Okolo, the proprietor of the Home, has alleged that the Director for… Continue

Okorocha and the Ides of March

By UGOCHUKWU IWUJI Wednesday, October 05, 2011

The battle for Imo Government House in the 2011 general elections was an epic one. The state thus became an arena for the fiercest battle royale, which the general elections instigated.

So, when on April 29, 2011, The Sun published my article, entitled Situating the Political Imbroglio in Imo, I received a deluge of comments – rebarbative, rational and reverential.

Indeed, in my entire writing career, it would not be mendacious… Continue

Aba: A city in disrepair

By Emmanuel Ejike Wednesday, October 05, 2011

It is with deep sorrow in my heart that I write concerning the deplorable condition of state and federal roads in Abia state especially in the vast metropolis of Aba.

Some of the streets and major roads such as old express road, obohia road, ohanku road, to mention but a few are now inaccessible and replaced with street ponds, waste parks and breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

The situation is aggravated when there is rainfall… Continue

NDIGBO: Jews of Africa

By Ikenna G. Ikenna Wednesday, October 05, 2011

This is a nation and a people; a people of south-east Nigeria, who are persecuted wherever they pitch their tent to sell their goods and services. They are the Igbo people of Africa. They are Jews of Africa. Among them was the great Zik of Africa, they are his people. They are the migrant masses and the pilgrimage people; a people found in every nook and cranny of a country, a continent, and a cosmos.

Though of the Diaspora,… Continue
