Three people lost their lives on Wednesday when a storey building under construction at Dutse-Alhaji in Abuja, collapsed.
The building located on Ademola Awosika Street, behind Winners’ Chapel, fell after a light rain in the morning killing three men and injuring nine others.
The victims were believed to be construction workers.
The wounded men were rushed to Kubwa General Hospital for treatment.
Our correspondent who visited the scene saw officials of the National Emergency Management Agency, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps and policemen carrying out rescue operations.
Heavy duty equipment such as cranes and trucks belonging to Dantata and Sawoe, were deployed in the site.
It was suspected that the building might have collapsed due to substandard materials.
The owner of the structure was yet to be identified as at the time of filing this report, but it was learnt that security agencies had been directed to arrest him.
The NEMA Public Relations Officer, Yushau Shuaibu, confirmed the casualties, saying that the injured were responding to treatment at the hospital.
