Police rescue child sold for N250,000

Police authorities in Delta State on Wednesday said a child stolen and sold for N250,000 had been recovered in Agbor, Delta State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Charles Muka, who confirmed the development, said five persons had also been arrested in connection with the child theft.

Our correspondent reports that the seven-year-old child, Trust in God Ndidi, was stolen at No 2 Idumiside Obi Quarters, Umenede, from her mother, one Lynda Madaka.

It was learnt that Police detectives in the area had trailed the suspects to No 69 Ulo Street, Umenede, where one Collin Osekihe, age 24, was arrested in connection with the theft.

He said Osekihe later confessed that one Chuks Elue, a 54 years old man, was one of his accomplices in the deal.

The two suspects, it was learnt, later led police to Agbor where the child was recovered in good health from one Patience Chukwuemeka, a 40 years old wife of the second suspect, Elue, and mother of seven children.

It was not immediately clear what a family of seven wanted an extra child for, but the police said they would unravel the motive behind the illegal transaction.

Other accomplices arrested in connection with the case were one Chuks Okwudili, 18 years, and Uche Anyasi aged 16 years old.

Muka said the suspects confessed they bargained to sell the child for N250,000 to Elue before they were arrested.

He added that efforts were on to arrest another of the suspects identified simply as Chinedu, now at large.

The police PPRO said all the suspects would be charged to court soon.
