AN Ado-EKITI Chief Magistrate C.O. Adegoke has ordered that a 48-year-old man, Olapade Omotoso, be remanded in the town’s prison custody till August 8 for allegedly raping a housewife to death in a hotel in Ikere-Ekiti.

Prosecuting police Corporal Ebenezer Ewuola told the court that Omotoso allegedly committed the offence on June 24 at 8.20pm.

He allegedly slept with Mrs. Feyisayo Ologunki, 50, at Samphe Guest House, Araromi Street, Ikere-Ekiti.

The woman reportedly began to gasp and soon died before help could get to her.

Ewuola alleged that Omotoso caused Mrs Ologunki’s death and that the woman was staying with her husband until the time of the incident.

He said the man thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 77, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990.

The defence counsel, Mr. Bola Aruleba, prayed the court to give the matter speedy hearing.

The prosecutor argued that the case file has to be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice and preparation.
