A decapitated body of an unidentified man has been found on Asa Dam Road, Ilorin, Kwara State.

The body, was said have been found near Butterfield Bakery at Asa Dam Road area about 8pm on Saturday.

Some eyewitnesses, who preferred anonymity, said the body was discovered with its head and private parts cut off.

They suspected that the man was a victim of ritual killers.

Those who were the first on the scene said they were afraid to inform the police for fear of being arrested in connection with the killing.

Our correspondent learnt that policemen from ‘D’ Division of Adewole Police Station, Ilorin, later removed the corpse and deposited it at a mortuary on Sunday morning.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olufemi Fabode, confirmed the discovery to journalists on Monday.

He said the man was killed by a hit-and-run driver, adding that the police were not informed on time. He also confirmed that the police had deposited the body in a mortuary.

Fabade added that nobody had claimed the body and urged members of the public, who had a missing person, to come and verify whether the victim was their missing person.

He said, “There was a hit-and-run incident and the police were not informed on time. The police got the information on Sunday morning.

“But they observed that the skull of the man was shattered. So, the police packed the body together and deposited it at the mortuary. Nobody had come to identify the corpse. But the police are still trying to determine the identity of the man. From available indications, he is a middle-aged man.”
