The Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Okechukwu Anyaji, on Friday said he did not inform the press or anybody, at any time, that the police arrested the Permanent Secretary of ENSUBEB.
Anyaji was reacting to the recent burglary incident at the accounts department of ENSUBEB, where he was reported to have said that men of the Enugu State Police Command, in connection with the case, arrested three employees, including two permanent members, whose offices were burgled.
In a statement issued to our correspondent, he said, “There was no such arrest.”
The statement further reads, “I only confirmed to the press, on enquiry, that there was burglary in the office and that the police have been invited by the authorities to investigate the matter and that the security men on duty on that day of the incident were arrested by the police for interrogation. The press will be briefed after the police investigation.
“I, Okechukwu Anyaji, hereby deny making any statement whose innuendo suggests that the permanent secretary of ENSUBEB was arrested over the said incident, for same is false.”
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, had earlier confirmed that the police had since commenced an investigation into the incident and that four persons were being interrogated.
