The Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Atani, on Monday, remanded a 28- year-old, Chidebere Igwe, in prison custody for allegedly defiling a four year-old-girl (name withheld).

Delivering the judgment, the chief magistrate, Mrs E.G Offor, said the crime was against God and humanity, adding that the accused had committed the worst crime on earth.

The prosecution counsel, S.O Onele, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who read the charge to the accused, said that he had carnal knowledge of the little girl at Iyiowa Odekpe in Ogbaru council area of Anambra State.

The accused, a bus conductor, pleaded not guilty and denied knowing the girl but the magistrate ordered for the presentation of the medical report on the damage done to the victim’s body.

The victim’s mother, Mrs Francisca Ogirishi, said she became aware of what happened when her daughter became sick.

She said “at the point of death, God opened the mouth of my daughter and she told me how Chidebere constantly took her to his room after giving her biscuit and I asked her what he did to her and she told me that ‘he used to bring out what he uses to urinate and put it in my own.’”

While the victim recounted her ordeal through her mother, the presiding magistrate was moved to tears but she soon controlled herself emotion and ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case till November 14, 2011.
